Questions to Reflect On

Reflection Brings Clarity

One of the best ways to gain clarity and spark new insights into understanding ourselves is through deep, personal reflection. Open ended questions invoke the deepest levels of self reflection because they direct and focus the mind on what matters – moving us away from our habitual thought patterns, into new and more meaningful ways of thinking.

Here are a few questions I’ve found that get people to go deep and help to increase self awareness and discovery. Becoming more self-aware is the first step to changing and improving your life. These aren’t just yes or no, or right or wrong, questions that you answer without a second’s thought – take them with you and reflect on them for a while.

Reflection Exercise:

Reflect on one (or more) of the questions below that resonates for you for at least 15-20 minutes and see what comes up for you. Then, decide what you’re going to do with what you’ve learned – e.g. journal about it, have a conversation with someone about it, change something in your life or set a new goal.

1 – If you could live your life over again, what would you do differently knowing what you know?
2 – Who are you being when you are at your best?
3 – What situations or experiences invoke your greatest, most cherished feelings?
4 – If I knew there was no way I could fail, I would….
5 – What am I most proud of in my life?
6 – What do I want to leave as my legacy?
7 – What have I learned from my failures?
8 – What patterns do I keep repeating in my life?
9 – What makes me happy?
10 – What am I ready for now?
